The Dega Empire: Dega Threads & Dega Studio

Dega Threads

“I am a Cosmic Impressionist, a digital interpreter of the analog experience,” -Pablo Marin

A visionary at a young age Marin’s love of art and design was ignited, as a five-year old, when he won an art contest. His passion continued to grow and in 2011 Marin graduated from Monmouth University, with a degree in Graphic Design.

Unemployed and under-appreciated, Marin gathered his passion, talent, and experience and made a life changing decision- to create a brand that fully expressed himself and his vision. Inspired by the 90’s, Marin employs the use of neon colors and original hand-drawn retro designs to create a visually captivating collection of men and women’s apparel, Dega Threads.

IB: What does Dega Threads mean? Is it original?

PM: Yes, it is. I actually created the word “Dega.” I wanted to establish a name, for my brand, that would be different and original without losing the simplicity aspect.

IB: What led you to build this brand? Tell us about the Dega Thread Collection.

PM: After being laid off from an apparel company, I was trying to figure out my next move. I knew I was passionate about art and design and I thought, “I could do this,” so I began sketching and took off from there.

The Dega Threads collection is completely hand-drawn original ideas. It has a 90’s vibe to it, I used a lot of neon colors and retro designs.

IB: Do your designs all have a unified message?

PM:  I would say that my designs have a lot of my own personal influences incorporated within them, not so much a unified message, which gives the “wearer” the opportunity to express themselves more freely.

IB: Where can our readers purchase your designs?

PM: www.degathreads.com – My new designs are available for men and women in: fitted t-shirt, crew-neck t-shirt, pullovers, and zip up hoodies, www.designbyhumans.com/shop/DegaThreads, teepublic.com/user/DegaThreads, society6.com.degastyle

With the growth of the Dega Threads brand, Marin knew it was time for another life-changing decision— to take his passion and turn it into a career. After resigning from his former job, Marin quickly launched his very own graphic design company, Dega Studios. Marin describes Dega Studios as the ‘prequel’ to, fashion line, Dega Threads. Despite its recent establishment, Dega Studios has already worked with several clients such as musical artists, Edit Revenge and The Union. Marin gave some advice to those visionaries who want to express themselves and build a brand, “A huge leap like this requires commitment, confidence, and dedication so make sure you know who you are completely, know your brand and never give up on your passion.”

Dega Threads has been invited to become a RAW Artist – New Jersey. Come see the Dega Threads designs on the runway: March 12, 2015 at Reign Nightclub located in Hoboken, New Jersey. Support Dega Threads and buy your tickets here: www.rawartists.org/degathreads.

Hey All,

Apologies for disappearing for a while. I felt as if I came to a point in my life where I wasn’t surrounding myself with activities that nourished my creativity and brought me happiness, so what was I to do? I’ve spent some time undergoing a lifestyle transformation. So after much contemplating I have made a list of things I am truly passionate about, the number one being: Singing. For me, singing always me to express what I am truly feeling; the thoughts and emotions that one can’t put into words. Another passion of mine was blogging. I was never too popular nor had many friends so I found comfort in writing. Much like singing, writing, allowed me to express feelings that no one else would have understood. I had a crazy thought, “Why not combine my two passions?” So that is what I am doing. I am showing you, my friends and dear followers, a side of me that is not seen too often (but if I want to be famous I guess I should start).  Enjoy

Dealing with Relatives: #Holiday Edition

Dealing with Relatives during the #holidays
Dealing with Relatives during the #holidays

While the holidays are time for family bonding and happiness, we all have one or two of “those relatives,” the one that have reputations that are less than merry. Like clock work your family will start arriving at the preset destination, Uncle Joe will bombard you with twenty-one questions, your brother, Randy, will show up two hours late, and your cousin Veronica, the world traveler, will brag non-stop meanwhile she’s an graduate who wasted a degree and can’t cope with adulthood, so she puts it off. Since these encounters are inevitable, I’ve thrown together some quick tips for surviving the holidays with your relatives.

The Ticking Time-Bomb

If the holidays aren’t a time for happiness then I don’t know when is. If your family is anything like mine, you have that one family member who always shows up with a chip on their shoulder. They’ll sulk in the corner or partake in minimal conversation thus making everyone else uncomfortable. I hope you know a good joke if you get caught conversing with this person.

Solution: When dealing with the angry family member, it’s important to tread lightly. Acknowledge that you understand their issue and offer some type of advice, however, redirect the topic in a positive direction; positivity is contagious, once they see you having a good time they’ll have no other choice but to join in.

The Gloom of Doom

Is there a funeral in town? Oh no, that’s just Aunt Marge’s arrival song. This relative lives under a dark cloud, by choice! He or she lives and thrives off negativity and sadness; they’re going to want to know every bad experience you’ve had since you last talked. Do yourself a favor and stay away from all sharp objects if you encounter this relative.

Solution: While you don’t want to be rude and find a different conversation partner talking with this particular family member will make you want to jump out the window. If you find that the conversation is heading in a negative way give some advice and say, “Ya know when I think negatively it keeps me awake at night, let’s enjoy each other’s company and focus on what the holidays truly represent.”

The Bragger

We all have one of these in our families. Whether they brag of their accomplishments, their travels, or boast their intelligence, it is never OK to overly brag or try to suppress others with what you have.

Solution: What I find to be hilarious is to actually feed into what he or she is bragging about; plus, you’d be surprised at how much people can actually inflate their own egos. If you can, possibly try to throw in an accomplishment of your own – if the bragger isn’t too bad they’ll congratulate you for a minute or two, but don’t be surprised when the topic returns to them.

I hope these tips help you survive the holidays – I know I’ll definitely be following my own advice. However, if your family is just that crazy and unruly then you have my permission to forget all the above tips, get wasted, and go wild. Enjoy the Holidays.

Much Peace and Love ❤

What is the true meaning of the #Holidays?

th

What is the true meaning of the holidays? For everyone this answer will be different. For me, I feel as if the holidays should be dedicated to family, which I think everyone acknowledges, deep down; whether we want to admit it or not, we all look forward to satisfying our inner child by viciously tearing apart wrapping paper and marveling at our gifts. The truth of the matter is that the holiday “image” has been commercialized by various industries and transformed into a materialistic season of unnecessary spending and stress; and if that wasn’t bad enough, it seems like families are never together for the holidays anymore. I know times are changing and this post was prompted by an idea thought of by my very traditional and Italian mother, however, she has a point. Are the holidays changing for the better or for worse?

I mentioned in the previous paragraph that I feel as if holidays should be dedicated to family and I firmly stand by this. Whether you are celebrating Christmas, Kwanza, or Hanukkah surround yourself with loved ones. I can recall so many happy memories I have from Christmas Eve with my family. This monumental day is always looked forward to with such excitement, amongst, the Bumbaca’s, the Smalley’s, and the Lopez’s. Not only do we get to spend time playing games and conversing with one another but the food is always AMAZING! Being Italian my family makes the usual appetizers, meats, fish, and the side dishes; also my aunt makes the best mussels ever, one year I ate 3 pounds in one sitting and I proudly brag – It’s that delicious. We finish off the night by exchanging gifts; our family participates in a Secret Santa and then we say our goodbyes and prep for New Year’s Eve.

Family is the one thing you should be thankful for the holidays is your family. Share with us, what do you all feel is the true meaning of the holidays? Tell us what you all do for the holidays? Much Peace and Love ❤

New Year’s #Resolution 2015: What’s Your’s?

Resolution
Resolution

The time has come, once again, to make that annual promise that seems to have extremely large boundaries, the New Year’s resolution. I’ll admit until this year I really never put much thought or effort into a resolution; and if I did it was something relatively painless like: stop drinking soda or clean up my room/apartment more often. For some odd reason, I always had trouble accomplishing the more long term resolutions – perhaps I have some commitment issues (but let’s save that for a different post). However, this year it’s all going to change; and you all are my witnesses. I want my resolution this year to really mean something. I’ve made so many accomplishments thus far: getting a dream job, moving to Philadelphia, and bettering my romantic relationship, why not continue to achieve the goals I’ve set for myself.

*Since I want to create an online community of blogger friends, let’s get to know each other. I’ll tell you all my resolutions and you can tell me what you all are changing/improving/quitting.

My Resolution(s)
1. Stop letting unnecessary intimidation and/or insecurity keep me from pursuing what I truly want out of life – it’ll make for a better night sleep.

2. Continue to build The “It” Blog

a. Eventually get its own domain name, hire other passionate bloggers, and turn it into a successful lifestyle and fashion website.

3. Start singing for an audience.

a. Whether it is at an open mic night, karaoke, or a competition, I want to start conquering my stage fright – not only will it help with singing, it’ll also improve my everyday communication/confidence skills.

By now you should have a list of resolutions you’d like to accomplish. Remember, it’s okay if you stray from your resolution, don’t beat yourself up, realize that you’ve lost track of your goal and then keep working toward it and eventually you’ll accomplish your resolution.

I can’t wait to read your resolutions. Let’s all support each other!

Much Peace and Love ❤

#Lumbersexual: New Trend For Men

imgres

Out of the ashes of the metrosexual comes a more rugged and scruffier type of man, the lumbersexual. That’s right the standards in male grooming have drastically changed. Unlike it’s “man bag” wielding counterpart, the typical lumbersexual shows off plaid and flannel shirts, denim pants, and distress boots.

This new trend has managed to slide under the radar for some time; however, the lumbersexual style is becoming more and more apparent – especially if you live in an urban setting. One of the most ironic aspects of this style is that while it’s supposed to give onlookers an effortless look, some men spend upwards of $200-$500 in apparel and grooming products to keep up their lumbersexual façade.

Now that I have described this rising trend, where can you find him? Your best bet is to go to a dive bar where he will, no doubt, be sipping on an IPA and dreaming about ways to win the next beard and moustache competition.
